Apes - comfort or cool? 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I see SO many people with apes, from short ones all the way to "do you need a booster seat?" tall ones.

For the longest time I thought they were just a "cool" thing, like wow those are tall!

But quite regularly I've seen posts that say things like "couldn't ride for very long until I got my apes..."

So my question is are apes primarily for comfort or for cool? I've never ridden a bike with big ones, so I don't know. Do they help tall people? I just feel like that arms-up posture looks uncomfortable - but I see people saying they came back from rides that are farther than I'd go with stock bars...

What do you think? Cool, Comfort, or both!?

As long as your hands aren't far above your shoulders, I'm willing to go out on a limb and say...

Both...

Yep, started out for the cool factor and discovered they are very comfy! My chiropracter thinks I'm nuts! But he don't ride so what does he know!

They're "functionally cool." Definitely easier on my lower back, shoulders and wrists ... and they look good, too! Can't wait to move up to 16" apes next season. They'll only be 4" taller should I decide to keep my risers.

same as others, tossed em on my sportster to look cool, but then realized they were the most comfortable bars ive had so far so i tossed em on my roadie 16in on stock risers, im 5'5 and love them, if i could do it again id do 18in

before i had stock bars on kickbacks, then i had beach bars on kickbacks, then beach bars on stock risers, and imho the apes completely blow everything out of the water

I have had apes on my bikes for aboout 20 years...they are the best. Long ago I did it to be different than everyone...but now everywhere you turn you see them. For the ultimate in comfy with the apes go with a drivers backrest.
