I was scraping on turns and bottoming out with mine too.

I ended up buying a 420 Progressive Shock with spring. Once set, it works great (OK maybe not as good as air ).

I discovered that my orig '02 shock and spring were shot. The bumps were driving up my spine, especially the paved over expansion joints that are 4"+....OUCH!

With the new 420 the system absorbs those pesky bumps much better.

I will save up and get a Tricky Air kit, since I hear that it really smooths out the ride.

Then obviously the cheapest solution is to leave it alone.

If you can get your hands on a OEM relay arm then that, plus max preload, may do if the combined weight of you and the GF is not much.

You can make it better by buying an aftermarket 1000 spring.

Those would be your next cheapest solutions that would improve your enjoyment of the bike.

Hey Paul, When I buy new, I will probably be buying a touring model of some sort. I have been looking at the Ultra Classic, but man you can land a Yamaha for half what the harley costs equally equipped, at least thats what it looks like to me. Mine will do for now, it only has about 8500 miles on it so I trust it will last a bit longer, lol. Thanks for all the advice.

Hey Immusicman,

Contrary to what MS1700 said we're not quite 10 times as much...
It's abummer about your crappy ride, because when done right a Roadie is a really great bike. The information you are getting here is good stuff first off. Like these guys, I would have guessed flipped dog bones right off the bat too. Too bad about those Baron's, although those guys were never top notch at the rear suspension game anyway. Most important in the suspension world is clearance and safety, being super low is a distant second.
If you're going to keep your Roadie for a while, call me for an air ride, I'll give you a good deal. toll free : 866-922-3533

To touch on another topic - and keep in mind I am in no way an HD snob,but...
...You will probably never ride a more comfortable bike than the Street Glide.
We do air ride for every major make & model of motorcycle. We've just come out with air front ends for the HD Baggers (we've been doing rears for them for quite a while). So we took in our possession an 09 HD Steetglide Ultra from a customer to do an install on. Now, obviously it rides nice and soft with our air shocks on it, but even with conventional shocks it beats the pants off the competition! It makes riding other bikes feel like your riding a dirt bike!

just one guys opinion on the Streetglide!
