Bogging down-HELP 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Evvery now and again when I first star up my bike it runs good,I live 1/2 mile from interstate, runs good for the first 2 miles then it starts spitting, sputtering, popping and backfiring to the point where I have to down shift to 4th to maintain a safe speed all the while it is bogged down and backfiring. After about 2 or 3 miles it comes out of it and runs good the rest of the time. The bike is an 07 and all stock except for V&H longshots. The funny thing is I mentioned this to a friend of mine who has an 06 and he was having the same problem. We do not fill up at the same gas station if that would matter.I run 87 octane.

My 06 had the same problem. Sounds like it could be sticky valve (SVS) - not the gas. Search the site for information - many, many of us have had this problem - it can be beaten into submission.

My '07 did that just once, then never again. So I doubt it is SVS. It felt more like lack of fuel. I always thought it was the fuel pump not switching on for some reason. I'd run some sea foam in the gas for a tank or two and when it happens, pull over if you can, shut it off and see if you hear the fuel pump run for a longer than normal time when you turn the switch back on.

My 04 did the same thing and I re-jetted useing baron's mikuni kit...Followed the directions and she has been perfect all summer.....Was running to lean.
I think svs is a condition caused by carboning up based on improper jetting...To be safe I put 1 oz of Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in every tank.

I would check for a leaky carb joint (intake manifold) or exhaust flange.

It sounds like it is heat-related during mid warm-up.

SVS winds up with severe vibrations that get worse as SVS increases.

Before the "every now and then" has it been idling for extended periods of time?
How long do you keep the choke out?
There are allot of questions that could be asked.
I doubt that it's SVS. Check the plugs, especially the rear one. Change them both just for snicks.

good luck
