Re:Darn Deer 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I thank God we didn't go down. But I been riding since the early 60s dirt bikes and street bikes. I think what helped was I hit her in the head and neck and spun her around, and her hind quarter hit my Wife's right leg against the frame of the roadie. Saddlebag was pretty full of stuff and that took a little of the impact off the wife's leg. My youngest son was behind us in the right track and he said the back of the roadie moved over at least 2 feet to the side on impact. The deer continued on across the road spinning between My Son's bike and mine.

Around here there are lots of deer. I get very nervous riding at night because of them. We had two jump out in front of us yesterday morning (almost 11 am -- enough room about 100 ft) and that can scare the crap out of ya'.
Very glad to here you guys are OK and better yet your son wasn't also involved. That sounds like it could have been a very ugly scene.
God bless.

I don't know what it is, but for years now i notice deer come out more in daylight than ever before. I think if you do run across one after dawn, or before dusk there's a better chance of full contact because they just can't see so well with the flood of UV light. And to make things worse, they are not as timid to the presence of humans as they once were. 10 years ago when I came upon them eating at the side of the road, they ran, now they stay put and keep eating.

Being on the look out for deer is wise, but the one you'll hit is running full stride and always comes out of left field eh? And when in a group, why does one always decide it wants to go back where they all come from just as you get back on the gas after they have crossed?

Glad you made it through it, Could have been way worse.

What's the Deer saying I wonder?

Glad you and the wife came out relatively unscathed.

Getting to be that time of year again when the deer really start moving, so keep your eyes open out there. I know they're thick as ever here in Ohio...until deer season comes in, then they hide from me.

Well got the roadie back on the road a while ago still runs fine. Got the new lights wired and working fine. Thanks for the comments and concern from everyone. Wife still hobbling around and can't wait to get back on and ride, but that will be a while at least a little while LOL.

I guess we don't have a lot of deer where I ride, have seen a few but I think if was hiding a lot with them on the same road as my I would try one of these
