Thanks for the replies Big Bear, Cougar, and Musky.

I will put up a WTB post over on the R* Riders forum and see what I can come up with.

If you have the OEM, short of pulling a trailer with your roll-around..lol.. what extra tools/stuff should one bring on a long trip. Leatherman would be numero uno, maybe some duct tape..or is that for hiking, and some bailing wire.

What else?

A good adjustable wrench is handy. You don't want to get to weighted down. And some kind of tire repair kit.

Re:Rookie Question 1st post 4 Years, 5 Months ago
Here's my take on tool kits. I don't have the OEM kit; the original owner couldn't find it when he sold me the bike. Probably wouldn't carry if I had it anyway though. So I put together my own set of tools based on years of working on and maintaining my own bikes, and I try to use those tools exclusively when doing routine maintenance. I even carry a
1 1/16" wrench (steering head) and a 32mm wrench (shock adjuster). Can't remember right off hand which one it is, but one of these fits the rear axle also, for belt adjustments. That way I feel fairly confident that I'll have the tools I need for most roadside repairs. Granted, there are times when I have to get into the toolbox, but for the most part, I use my tool kit. And with the exception of the two wrenches mentioned above, all my tools fit in a canvas bag about 10"L x 7"W x 2"D, which fit nicely in the bottom of the saddlebag.
So without giving an item-by-item inventory of what tools I carry, I'd say, whatever tools you think you might need (within reason!!), add those to your tool kit. Better to have and not need than to need and not have!!!

In The Wind,
Aaron

Almost forgot; another thing to keep in mind is any bolt-on accessories. Alot of these are standard/SAE so you need to add SAE wrenches, sockets and allen wrenches (if needed) to your kit.

Oh well, it is something to talk about on a cold morning while drinking coffee.
If you have a poor memory, things like this are just like a new story everytime they get brought up again.
