The "Vandalay" Road Star Lives... 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Old guy pulls up to me Saturday, rolls down his window and attempts to "bike talk".

"Nice Bike".
"Thanks", I said.
"They sure don't make 'em like that, anymore".
"Nope", I said.
"What is it"?
Me, sensing an opportunity to test my theory about people's knowledge of bikes, say, "It's a Vandalay"...
"Cool". "I've never actually seen one in person".

So, my test to see if the "Vandalay" (ala Seinfeld) would work on unsuspecting victims went as planned.

Wait until he tells his buddies that he saw one...

I'm thinking that almost everyone on this site could relay a similar story about people mistaking our bikes for another brand, and especially if they are "Riders". I get a lot of people who pull up next to me and look, they stare trying to figure out what it is, looking for a name brand they can see, and most just grin and nod.

I think the Roadstar takes a lot away from the "Metric" bike image. It looks, and sounds like the rest, and I think it's the BEST one.

One guy asked me who makes the Ultimate bike? Then I realized, he was reading the name on the seats

The other day an obvious octogenarian at the fuel pumps told me he had a bike just like mine when he was 14. Guess the Roadie has quite a history. I wonder what he thought I was riding?

It no longer amazes me that someone doesn't know what I'm riding .... what amazes me is someone who says .... nice Yamaha/R*.

I agree Doc....it takes a true affectionado to recognize it as a Road Star especially if it's got some major mods done to it. That Yamaha motor to me though is always a dead giveaway.
