Quick Release Dirvers Back Rest 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I followed the tech article for making my own back rest. It looked good and was very comfortable, but I only want it for long rides as it looks a little too 'Old Man' for me. So i redesigned it a bit and thought I would throw it out there for anyone interested. I took a piece of 1" square tube and cut it about 2 1/2" long. I welded this to a 12" x 1 1/4" x 3/16" stock. set that aside. then I took 2 pieces of 1 1/8" angle 1/8" thick and ground these down until I could make a piece of square tubing by welding them together. This made a tight receiver for the 1" tube. I cut it and drilled it, then attached it under the seat. You'll need to adjust the length of the tubes and bend the flat stock but if you can weld it, you can measure too. Looks clean, comes out easy (like a recieiver hitch) and is very secure. Plus, if you made the one by Paul Bertolino, you were as frustrated as me trying to install and remove it!!

I drew it up and the file is too big. Tried sizing it down and you can't see a thing.
I have a nice little detail but don't know what to do to show it.

Put the file on photobucket or whatever service you use, then just post that link to the file. Or post several pics, or both!!

That link works fine.
I may have to finish the backrest I was working on a year ago. I have 90% of what I would need to do it your way already completed. I'm just not comfortable with just that one 6MM bolt supporting my big ole body.

A good bit of the weight is distributed across the face of the passenger seat. The load on the 6mm is a combination of lift (thread tension) and push (sheer tension) so I my opinion is that with it loaded three different ways rather than just one big push, it's fine.
