Is this procedure done with the bike level or on the sidestand. It appears to me that there is no difference between the intake and manifold side of the carburetor. I recognize four sides to the carb. Intake, manifold, front of bike, rear of bike. Please clarify the positioning of the bike (level or on the sidestand) as well as exactly which side of the carburetor to use for the measurement.

I agree I'm not seeing a difference between the left and right side of the carb. Mine is stock right now and I'm measuring 5 mm on the right side of the bike sitting level (stand on block's)

i am going to assume you have an 04 or later star there midnight. You say left or right rear no diffrence i seem to remember right side of carb sitting a bit higher but if you say 5 mm both sides then 5 mmit is and so ends the arguement of the proper setting gues i have to go adjust mine again since i set it at 3 mm trying to go in the middle of what the manual says and what everyone else was saying that it should be set at about the thickness of a nickel. thank you very very much for taking that measurement fo ALL OF US HERE ON RSC

Can anyone provide the mechanical float level setting? I have a 2001 model and I am looking for the starting point. Then I can go back and take the measurements. The bike has been re-jetted but I have no information as far as who did it or when. I know it is using a 170 main bot it has no manufacturer stamping on it. I just want to get back to a baseline so I can set it properly. It seems to be running very rich with a raw fuel smell noticed by someone riding behind me.

I can't get my Roady(2001 1602 Silverado) to go much past 70 in 4th gear when I run full throttle... I have adjusted the brass screw on the bottom of the carb to try to lean it out.. Friends riding behind say I'm running too rich...
Thinking about porting my intake... will I have to change the float level then?
Thinking about doing the needle valve mod.. will I have to adjust the float then also? Thanks in advance.

No the float level is set to spec and left alone.

It's the jets and needle that if fine tuned.
