I just talked to Mustang; They charge 1/2 the price of a new seat to recover an old one and if the foam padding was damaged they charge 2/3 for refoam & recover.

Thanx again, Clifford. They only deal at their 'suggested retail' rates online and at those prices, it'd be worth it just to buy new from another distributor or ebay.

At this point, I'm just going to replace the seats with the stiff, ishy stockers, buy some sort of motion alarm and game scouting camera, and try to modify the cover so it can't be pulled up from the rear. I'll also check some local places and biker buddy recommendations to try and get them recovered. That way I'll be able to get some custom pillow-top quotes and at least try to make the Mrs. happy (and off my back about getting a tourer).

bruskis1 - I'd more than GLADLY do that jail time for pounding anyone I ever caught burning an American flag. And thumb my nose at any judge that sent me there for it.

And Andrew ... I gotta tell ya, that's probably the first and only time I ever heard a self admitted 'bleeding heart liberal' to actually like any sort of body disposal method.

I'm surprised that no one recommended Mean City Cycles. I just shot off an email to Allen telling him of my plight. I sure hope he can help me.

Re:Seat Got Slashed ... 2 Years, 8 Months ago

FYI - After a few emails back and forth, Allen from MCC (Mean City Cycles.com) gave me a quote of $175 + shipping to recover my slashed Mustang seats. Since I thought I was going to end up paying Mustang almost $350+s&h, I asked Allen how much more to modify and customize the seats with memory foam for a pillow-top type effect. Well, he came in at $400+shipping for both (about $53 more than Mustang). But I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks before he can do it ... which is no problem. I can sit on gaff tape until then. And use my stockers while they're out being rebuilt. Besides, it'll take about that long to get my camera, cover, locks and alarm in.

Just wanted to share this great experience and deal with everyone. And anyone thinking about getting new seats and/or having some customizing done.

Thanks for the info.

The price for a recover sounds reaasonable. I had a seat covered quite a few years ago and I cost about $150.

Cameras and all that are great, but a picture alone doesn't do much unless you can ID the perp or catch em' in the act. Here's another idea, go to Harbor Freight, or Radioshack, or anywhere else....get you one of those "driveway alert" systems that cause a wireless module to BEEP when the motion sensor activates.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93068

They are wireless and you can place the chime module next to your bed. You know thieves go for the saddlebags, so place it in there pointing up. Acquire the proper equipment and go defend your property.

In a closely related local scenario I am familiar with, an armed property owner confronted a thief in the act. The vehicle he was in contained a large sharp screwdriver, the owner knew this. The owner testified before Grand Jury that he felt threatened because the perp had access to the deadly sharp instrument, it was dark, so he used his firearm. It was argued that because the thief already demonstrated his willingness to commit a felony, and he had reasonable opportunity and access to a weapon, there were no formal charges filed against the property owner.

Or, you could just buy a civilian taser and hold em' till Police arrive....your choice.

www.taser.com

....keep large zip ties next to your taser for quick "handcuffs".

As a Vet, I, too, was offended. And when I told the cop that wrote up the report that I considered it a 'hate' crime, he quickly responded,"No, it's not." And followed that with,"Who'd you piss off?" after giving me a top to bottom look over. But, to be fair, he did throw in that it was probably the punks up the street that they arrest on a frequent basis ...

Typical, the cop makes you out to be the one at fault. A perfect example of why I don't call cops, I take care of my own business. It does sound like kids that are doing it. I go with the wildlife camera thing. A picture is worth a thousand words. Not much of a defense when you provide a series of snap shots of them in the act.

I can never understand vandalism ... must be a real bitter person to destroy someone 'stuff'.

Someone 'broke into' my car (I left it unlocked ) the other night but they just went through all the compartments looking for change.

Night vision cam sounds like a good idea.

If you left your door unlocked they didn't break in. It was just unlawful entry. In Texas, it is against the law to leave your vehicle unlocked and you can be fined for doing so. It is also against the law to leave your vehicle while it is running. I think those are good laws. BTW folks, you don't want to use deadly force unless they are using, or it is imminent they will use deadly force against you or your family. Otherwise, you will be the criminal.

Well, I just installed a Dowco cover alarm and modified it so the bungee cords are on the front and back wheels to at least make it harder to take off. I gotta say, it is one of the loudest things I've ever heard and it can't be shut off unless the pin is re-installed. The game camera will be here next week.
