2001 Roadstar is dead!!!!!!!! 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Ok I went for a ride today and the bike ran great all day long. At our last stop before coming home. I bumped the starter and it kicked back then it was started blowing and sucking out of both exhaust like both exhaust valves were stuck open. We had only been stopped for about 20 min. It has 26000+ miles on it and just had an oil change. Does anyone have any ideas?

Need some more info. But to get started... I would first pull the plugs and see if they are normal looking. I would then check the compression and air filter. Did it start normal? Any metal to metal sounds? Did you ride it home?

Two things:

Check your oil level.

The compression relief solenoid may be stuck open.

Ok the compression relief solenoid sounds right but what do I do about it if that is what it is. No metal sounds and no I didn't ride it home. I just happen to be in a town where we have a yard so I picked up a truck and trailer and hauled it home.

If the compression release was stuck open it wouldn't make any metallic noise.

I would look in the service manual on how to trouble shoot that part.

Click HERE and find the manual for your scoot.

Good luck.

Haven't had the problem, but have seen some posts here related to it, seems like the levers get stuck or bent..anyway the manual posted above has a good explanation of how it works..

Ok now I am really wondering. Pulled the cover off the compression relief solenoid and it was in like it should be tried to start it and it worked but the bike still would not start. Checked the fire and had good fire tried to start again nothing. Checked the oil and air filter all good and just for grins tried it again and it STARTED LIKE IT ALWAYS HAS. Sounds good everything normal but now I am wondering what the crap.

Did you pull the plugs and inspect them?
What did they look like?

Re:2001 Roadstar is dead!!!!!!!! 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I did not pull the plugs only pulled 1 plug wire to check to see if I was getting any fire to the plugs. When it quit it was running great no problems. I just killed it for a min while another rider went in a store. Then it wouldn't start. When it started earlier today is was like nothing had ever happened. There must be a short in something but I'm not sure what I moved to make it work. I guess I'm going to have to try to make it quit again or just ride it until it does.(Just hope it is close to home)
