i removed mine - looks better imo

and if you have the stock tool kit, you can adjust the preload yourself in like 5 mins. its easy

I had the same problem, hours of messing with different settings and my only outcome was the ability to remove the saddle bags and brackets faster than a NASCAR pit crew. I finally gave up and took them off. I thought about taking the upper chrome belt guard off but then I questioned the wisdom in that. What would keep the saddle bag bracket from hitting the belt then? I couldn't imagine that would be good for the life of the belt. Some guys have great luck with the lowering brackets but I've read of many that never get it to stop hitting.

I have the brackets sitting on my work bench if anyone is interested in purchasing them.

Your bike looks like its a 2003 and below. Those years needed a spacer on that side to keep from hitting the belt guard. 2004 and above were made differently and do not require spacers to move the bracket out a little to keep them from hitting the belt guard. Kai

Conan....great advice from everyone. I had the same issues on my '06. I put in some nylon spacers on the belt side to move the bag out about 3/4 inch. That stopped them from hitting the guard but it's got a pretty good ding in it right now. I think I'll take Doc's & Slothy's advice and remove mine as well next time I'm down there. There's probably line an inch gap between the belt and the belt guard so I don't think you would ever actually hit the belt.

Regards....greeny
