would love to put a faring on my bike don't want to loose the apes... would that look stupid if i left them

It may have to do with the way you burn the CD; Quick burns will not read well in a player; I've experienced this in my car as well. Because of this, I now burn all my CDs at the slow burn speed. Takes a while but in the end I don't have any issues.

Alpine is the one if you want to play CD they have a patented system and will skip almost never. I know three installers for different shops and that is what they use for bikes. They will fight any other brand if they install.
