2001 Roadstar Silverado. To trade or not to trade 2 Years, 8 Months ago

Hello everyone,
This is my 1st post here and I have a question for you.
I currently have a primo 89 Vmax that I have been selling
as I would like something a little more roomy for the wife
and I. I have a guy who would like to trade me a 2001 Roadstar
Silverado with 20,000 miles straight across. He has always wanted
a Vmax. Anyway I have read up a bit on the Roadstar and I know
that there is a trans. recall for a c clip. Anything else that
I should look for on this model ? Also I have never had a forward
control bike before, how far forward are the controls and how hard
is it to adapt to ? Last I'm selling the Vmax for $3700 so I'm a
little worried about the trade as this guy is trading down. You
would think he could sell his bike and buy mine with some change in his
pocket. Could be I'm paranoid. Any and all replies would be appreciated.
I bow to your expertise.
Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like a good deal to me, like you said you need to make sure the recall has been done or get it done. He's not trading down too much, a 2001 isn't worth much more than that VMax regardless of what some think. My $.02.
As far as riding position the controls aren't too far forward, should be easy to get used to.

Ride the Road*, look at the VIN and look for the mark stamped that indicates the Recall has been done. Like any other vehicle, look it over real good, check the tires, ride it on the Hi-way, get a feel for her, then ask questions.
Depending on it's condition and how often he serviced it, has it been repainted, has he done some crazy mods to it, has he lowered it or raked the front? All things that if it wasn't done right could really effect the bike.
and that brings us up to $.04 cents now.

For what it is worth the "book value" of the Vmax is $2,910 and for the RoadStar $5,180. If he is asking for an even trade GO FOR IT before he changes his mind! The trany recall is the only one with the VIN # you can call any dealer or Yami HQ and find if it has been done. If it has been done, that's fine; if not you can still get it done on their nickle. I own a motorcycle repair shop in Sebring, FL where I see all kinds of bikes and the Roady is one of the best!

Where would I find that stamp ? If I get the vin # and call
Yamaha can they tell me if it has been done ?
Also will they let anyone take the bike in for the recall
or only the original owner ?
Thanks,
Chris
