Need New Speedo Gauge Advice 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Hey Fellas,

I haven't been able to come up with an OEM replacement for my 05 speedo Assy, which took a dump last week. I have looked at Dakota Digital and they have some pretty nice ones. Now, should I just put my no good stock one back in the place where it should go, and mount an aftermarket on the handlebars? Or is there an aftermarket one that will take the place of the OEM one which installs in the OEM place. I don't have a lot talent as far as customizing or fabricating anything fancy. I just need something to get me down the road and to also look nice. Thanks for any help,
CJC

A lot of GPS give speed till you can locate a oem just a thought. 150.00 on ebay for a used seems high, maybe I'm just cheap. Check out bike salvage yards not sure what OEM NEW would cost.

ya if you have a portable gps, that maybe the cheap and easiest route.i used a Dakota digital speedo on my warrior - small one and it worked perfect and easy to wire. but as you notice they arent cheap.

I've looked far and wide for and aftermarket speedo. Not much out there for us lots for Hogs.
I am dumping my tank which means I am dumping the speedo too. You might want to check these out:

Acewell
Trail Tech
MMB gauges
Koso
Dakota Digital
Thunderheart digital
Wire Plus
Motoscope

Go to customchrome.com and look in their gauge section, pretty good.

I'm leaning to one of the ACewells but the MMB is sweet too. I'm trying to go as small as possible and retain speedo, turn signals, high beam and neutral. Dont care about fuel or tach. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions,
I am looking at an OEM replacement. For my plain 05 road star with spoke wheels, the price of the speedo is about 530$. If I look up a speedo for a 05 midnight silverado, it is about 420$. I know the midnight speedo has MIDNIGHT written on the face, which dosen't bother me, but are there any other differences? I wouldn't think so. What do ya'll think???

I would like an aftermarket speedo gauge, but how do all these mount? On the bars, or handlebar clamp? Also, are there none out there that would mount in the stock location? What do I do with the hole in the gas tank?
