Well making progress, I have replaced ALL fuses, and also replaced the stock starter and + and - battery cables with Maxair Engineering Cables, and it is starting a heck of alot better but still doesn't seem right, every now and then when the bike is warm and I turn it off for just a few minutes like getting gas or just run in the quickie mart real quick, when I hit the starter button it acts as if the starter is just beginning to engage but not completely, just for a split second. Hard to explain but if I immediately hit the starter button again she fires right up. Curt mentioned the "decompression release", self admitted idiot when it comes to being a mechanic, how would I go about checking this??? also someone mentioned the starter switch, and again how would I check that?????

Hey CPO. Have you cracked this one yet? How are the new cables and starter working out? What starter did you get?

Thanks.

CPO the compression release is on the right side just behind the triangular shaped cover with Yamaha on it on the bottom of the engine. There is a Kidney shaped black cover just behind it with 3 screws. Remove the cover and watch the spoon shaped thing that pushes the rod. If there is too much clearance between the spoon and the rod then the spoon won’t push the rod in far enough to release the compression to start the engine. Just bend the spoon a little closer to the rod and try to start it again. Clear as mud right?

Sorry forgot to mention this ones fixed, and the fact that I worded my last post poorly. I put the maxair eng. cables in and followed the article in tech tips, I didn't replace the starter itself just the cables, checked the comp. release which was a little loose and things have resolved.

Thanks alot guys!
