broken hiway bars! 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I went for a ride yesterday and noticed the front end developed a bad rattle.I checked it out on the road and could not find where the rattle was coming from. On the return ride home I noticed the rattle went away when my left foot touched the hiway bar. It turns out the bar had broken at the mounting point under the floorboard. When I pulled the bar off I found another break by the upper mount bracket by the frame. When I pulled it off it broke in two!! has anyone else had this problem? p.s. I can't remember the brand I think it's a cobra.

I got Cobra bars. Will have to check them out closely. It's unfortunate that you found out this way but thanks for the heads up.

My cobra bar is still tight after a few thousand miles so far. How many miles/years have you had it?

I had the same problem on my trip out to Oaklahoma, 5oo miles down and 225 to go on the way out my bracket broke on my lindby bar Found a piece of aluminum (or however the hell you spell that word) at home depot and fabed another one up. it only lasted 150 miles before it took a dump too called a bike shop in Hot Springs Arkansas and had a guy make me one up out of a piece of strap metal. That held 750 miles back home until i got new brackets from lindby. Strange where they broke though, on the second hole, forward floorboard bolt. broke clean in half.

My Yamaha big bar broke in half right on the weld. I'm not so mad about it now after hearing about other brands breaking. What does make me mad is their crappy 3 month only warranty! They certainly have a lot of faith in thier aftermarket products.

Hey, did it break through the center of the weld? If it did, that's just p#^% poor welding. If it broke BESIDE the weld, the material is probably too thin to handle the vibration.
