Recall done? 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Well I took my scooter in about 8 months ago to have the recall work done..BTW, don't ever take your bike or quad to these retards at Motions in Marietta,Ga.Prior to taking the bike in, I never, ever noticed any oil leaks, now I have started to notice some small leaks dripping from under the motor..I understand that the recall involves removing the motor to correct the problem. They proceed to tell me there would be extra charges to do this work because the bike was "modified"...lowered rear end! Direct words from their service advisor..the world is full of idiots! Then they told me I needed a new clutch @ 15K....
I can visibly see where the leak is located at one of the long bolts that connects the case together.I tried to tighten the bolt but it just keeps spinning.
If I take the bike back, I know what they will say! What do you guys think I should do?? I wonder if the work was done properly? I also understand they are supposed to put a little punch mark above the VIN to identify that the work is done. I guess I will call Yamaha tomorrow and have them run the vin and see if it comes up as being completed. If it does not show up, it's going back to another dealer.
...anything else you guys can think of?

Ouch! I think I would do the same thing. If it does show up as being completed, I wish you luck!. If the bolt is stripped you could probably complain enough to get it fixed but that would involve the same morons screwing with your bike again.
I would sit down in the garage with a bottle of Jack and have a good long cry.

I have had warranty work done at Moto400 in Dawsonville and I
was real happy with their work and attitude. I live in Ball Ground
and tried to get an app't at Cycle World in Canton...but they were
always booked up. I told Moto400 I'd have to wait for the bike and they
gave me an early morning shot and actually had a guy ready and waiting
for me. It'd be worth a phone call to call Moto400 and tell them what
happened to see if they have any suggestions.

I believe I would try a nice quiet talk with the owner of the dealer first, and see what he has to say. Then I would call Yamaha and explain the situation to them, calmly. If no satisfaction then it's time to get loud. Squeeky wheels get taken care of first.
I hope you can get it resolved

The threads for that bolt may be stripped but it is possible/likely that it is the wrong length, if it is too short it could have pulled the first few threads out, it might be worth pulling the bolt out and make sure it is the appropriate length for that location. If not, you may be able to solve the problem with a longer bolt.

If it was the wrong length, and that is a real possibility, then it also makes me wonder where the longer bolt is!!! could be a bolt pushing through a case somewhere else. I have a habit of keeping bolts in the same order they came out so they go back in the same place they came out of. Don't ask me why I do that!! Good luck getting this resolved. I would be very reluctant to take it back to a shop that had this kind of performance.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Here is the latest..as much as I didn't want to,i took it back to Manny,Moe and Jack..they looked at it, pulled it up in their system, and the recall work is out of warranty. The good part of this is that I did for sure find the oil leak,it is coming from a bolt in the housing that is between the blocks towards the bottom. The mechanic pulled out the screw and found that is was broken off in the other half of the case.Since they did the work, they told me they would fix at their cost..in which I would split 50/50..so it looks like it will cost me about 40.00..no so bad but it is still money that I should be giving them. The way I look at it, it's not worth raising hell with them over 40.00..life is too short.
Ride safe guys!

Recall work is out of warranty? I wouldn't think it would matter if it was under warranty or not. It's a manufacturer recall, and as such, should be covered no matter the time frame. Just my 2¢.
