Best Jet Kit? 2 Years, 8 Months ago
What is the best jet kit for my 2007 R* with 3" HardKromes, K&N filter (OEM box), AIS removed. The existing jet kit is unknown; does not have markings at current settings, and PMS adjustments are not curing some common fuel delivery issues. I am starting over and need to give direction to my mechanic as to which jet kit to install.

I like the Baron's as it used the Mikuni jets. A Dynajet kit is also OK but it usually lacks the two most need jets.

What Doc said... I bought the DJ kit and actually didn't use anything in it. The carb already had a DJ needle and the jet size you need isn't in the DJ kit. Get the Barons.

I have both kits. I used to use the dynojet kit. After much tweaking, I ended up only using the needle from it. Once I bought the barons bak (which came with the barons jet kit),I switched over. The dynojet kit is for sale on the roadstar clinic classifieds. 40 bucks if your interested. Just needs a new home.

Reinie: Any jet kit should be adjustable and none of them should give you fuel delivery problems unless the bike was jetted once, ridden and left alone. Most kits give you instructions and anyone on this forum will tell you, the basic settings are never right the first time for any application at any altitude. Your best bet is to remove the needle, take a picture of it and post it. One of us should be able to visually tell by that what kit (if any) was installed in your bike. If your needle only has 1 clip, it's stock. I have the stock and dynojet needles in my garage I could post if you don't have access to a camera. If it looks factory, we'll have you pull the float bowl and tell us the number on the main and the number on the pilot (you may as well have your mechanic do that anyways while he's checking the needle. Also have him swap the float bowl machine screws with easier to remove bolts). The stock pilot is 35 and the stock main is 182.5. The needle from the factory is fatter than the barons (mikuni) or the dynojet kit. I believe the baron's kit has the skinniest taper to it. The dynojet and mikuni jets have different numbering systems. There's a tech article on here that shows a chart by size.

I'm new to the jetting world and I'm curious.
I'm getting ready to install a K&N air cleaner assembly,
similiar to the star assembly and the bike has cobras.
What comes in the jet kits besides the main and pilot
jets. I know it has a needle but do you need to replace
it ? Does the factory one not have the grooves to raise or drop
it or is it a different type ? I found the spd-4wm09-49-10 on
ebay for about $40. Does it not have as many parts as the
Barons or Dynojet. Roadkill lives in my general area and he
runs a 175 main but says he could run the 170 and a 35 pilot( stock ? )
with the needle set at the 3rd groove. I plan on running the
same as we are both at about 6000 ft or so. Now he has a 1700
and I the 1600 not sure if that would make a difference.
Sorry guys I know this has been beat to death but need to know
what to order now that the aircleaner arrived. The Barons
and the Yamaha kits are only about $10 - $15 different in price. Also
could you just by the right main if the stock needle works or
is adjustable.
Thanks,
Chris
