My buddy had a 70's model (pre touring) the ergonomics we're so cramped you could only ride it for a short time. Another buddy traded an 85 suzuki 750 v twin for an 83 goldwing which still had the cramped rider position, but had the bags and stuff. He likes it, but hes 6'3" and looks funny on it. I guy I work with has an 85 gw, which is one of the first years they stretched it out a little. I sat on it and it's not too bad, but the newer ones are cherry compared. I'd still go with the yamaha. I haven't owner a honda street bike, but after my 01 star 650 and my 05 roadie, I can't see switching brands just yet. But then again. If the price is right and my bank account has money in it............Ya never know!

Gold Wings are sweet and surprising fast, other than crotch rockets it'll whip just about anything on the road. I don't care for the seating position, the pegs are under you and I found it uncomfortable. I'm not as flexible as I once was.
We had thought about a wing too since we seem to do alot of traveling and distance. So outta curiousity we went and checked out a few...I hated seating position as well. I felt crunched in. Maybe its because I have ridden with apes for so long (20 years or so) that I just didnt like it. Felt like my elbows were jammed in my sides and my feet were in too far. Thatsa big bike to not have a comfy position on.

Just like most bikes, you can buy handlebar risers and highway pegs for the wing to add a certain degree of comfort; you'll never get apes for it, but its a different kind of bike. I personally like the more technical, sporty feel it has...I feel like I'm on top of the steering more than behind it, and I always found myself trying to choke up on the tank of the roadstar to get more on top of the front. Different Strokes...

I hate the thought of having to set with my feet under me... that is why I would have the hiway pegs out front of me.
I finally got to set on one for the first time the other day... at a dealership. I was surprised how the handlebars felt alot better than they looked.
I would need an aftermarket seat that would bring me lower to the ground to feel really comfortable.. and I am 6'8" tall.
The great thing is - my wife is into getting one (and she hasn't even sat on one yet or know anything about them)... so I am halfway there!
