bottoming out 2 Years, 4 Months ago

A friend of mine has an 01 roadstar that he and I just put the PCS lowering kit and progressive spring into. After putting the lowering kit and spring in the bike it was fine, just needed some adjustment to keep from bottoming out. Later on when he was trying to tighten the tension nut the end with the adjustment nut and lock nut unthreaded and came off of the piston on the shock. He got that back together, and ever since then the bike has been riding so low to the ground that he is bottoming out on almost every bump and dragging the frame going very easy in the corners. When I saw it, it now looks far lower now than when we put the kit in. Does anyone have any idea what he may have done? It appears that he has done everything right.
