Update on the electrical issue. No right blinker, someone asked if the green light came on and now that she is back together I can tell you no the green signal light does not come on with the right blinker...it does come on with the left blinkers

Maybe the turn signal relay is faulty. Did you disconnect the battery before performing this task. It's possible that wires shorted while cutting and splicing them. You'll need a friend, but remove the right rear turnsignal and the right front turnsignal bulbs. Check and make sure you have continuity between the front and rear.

But the more I think about it, if your aftermarket running lights aren't coming on and your right front turn signal isn't coming on, I think you have a wire swapped. The running lights should be wired inside the headlamp assembly somehow to that circuit, but they should shut off when the high beams are on. Are the high beams on? does the right turn light up when the high beams are switched on and off?

vwtech0,

Well, I think I figured it out...i need a new gremlin bell ... following your advice i went and tested the hi-beams and they work just fine (hign beam switch works and doesn't activate the blinker). for grins i hit the light bar switch and tada they came on ... I fully expected the blinker to come on with them...

I did disconnect the neg terminal before i started (got hit once messing with a VW battery, wrench made contact with the back seat frame, i don't do that anymore ). I'll check the continuity sometime this weekend, where does the green bulb fit in all this? Are there seperate relays for each side? i thought there was one and the switch controlled which side to activate.

I was thinking if the green light lit up on the dash, your fault would be in the switch itself, but like i said, i've never had a switch apart, so I don't know how it operates internally.

Boodie:
Unplug the harness from the signal relay. Open the switch housing at the left handlebar, and open/remove the seat. leave the key off! Hook a jumper wire to the + terminal on the battery and hook the other end to the dark green wire at the switch. The RH signal should should light up but not blink. If it doesn't light up then you probably have a bad splice for the dark green wire in the handlebar. If it lights up then move the jumper from the dark green wire to the yellow/red wire turn on the switch for right turn and the signal should light up but not blink. If you have light then the switch is OK, if no light then the switch is no good (LH works - RH doesn't). If you have light then the signal relay is no good (LH works -- RH doesn't). I am betting that you have a problem with either the switch or the relay. Let me know what you find.

vwtech0, thanks that makes sense, hopefully I can get this figured out.

Clifford, I'll try that this weekend. Thanks.

OK, I did all of that, hit the Dg wire (under switch) with the + and got light at the RH signal and the green dash light. did the same with the Y/R wire (on top of switch) and no light at the LH signal or the dash...

So, I have light at the right signal and dash but not light at the left signal and dash BUT those work under normal conditions

Bad relay? or bad switch?

I only unplugged the "turn signal relay" but not the "relay unit" do I need to do both?

Leave the "relay unit " connected; just unhook the "turn signal relay." The turn signal relay is kind of 2 in 1 so half (LH) does work and half (RH) might not work. The same with the turn signal switch half does (LH) work and half (RH) might not work. When you put power to the Dg wire at the switch and the right signals light up that proves that the right side wires and bulbs are OK! When you put power to the Y/R wire at the switch nothing should happen to the LH side and it didn't; so that is fine. If you put power to the Y/R wire at the switch and the switch is not on for right turn then nothing should happen. When you put power to the Y/R wire with the switch on for right turn then the RH lights should light up, if they don't then half of the switch is bad; if they do light up then the switch is OK and the turn signal relay is bad.
