Yamalube and Yamafilters .. 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I have never run anything but K&N filters since I found them.

Here are some links to oil filter comparisons:

Yamaha: http://www.tobycreek.org/oil_filters/yamaha.shtml
K&N: http://www.tobycreek.org/oil_filters/kandn.shtml

I don't know what the heck Yamaha is putting in Yammalube, but if I drained the oil from my truck and it smelled as burnt as fresh Yamalube does I would schedule it for a rebuild. The previous owner supplied me with oil and a filter when I bought my Star so I went ahead and used it, if I hadn't already had the oil drained and the parts stores closed when I changed it .. actually, that was the night of my wreck. I had planned to go out the next day and at least change the nasty smelling oil.

I can't offer personal testimony for the Shell Rotella-T in a Road Star yet, but I know that when I flipped IBM off and went to work as a tractor/trailer mechanic back in 90 the shop foreman insisted on it and showed me things he had brought back from a seminar where the Shell people had run a truck engine several hundred thousand miles changing only the filters and he said at 300,000 plus you could still see through the oil and it felt just like a fresh bottle betweeen your fingers.

I was listening to the engine rattle yesterday and realised I had never changed the oil and filter so I am doing my first K&N/Shell change today, so I won't have personal experience with it in the Road Star for awhile.

Has anyone else noticed the godawful burnt to hell smell of Yamalube?
