alot of people run a crankcase filter near the ground. they run a long hose down by the battery next to the fuel tank vent hose and put a filter on the end of it. as for the raincoat, it definately works. I rode for 2 hours in the rain yesterday with it. just make sure your filter is oiled properly. if the filter is washed out and looks whitish then you need to clean and re-oil your filter

What we found in the case of MS1700 bike a 07 1700 was that the more open the V the less chance the carb bowl would boil over. If you run the pump on hot days the fuel line seems to have more pressure and when the bowl boils ( lack of better term) that is when you get puke. When I say a bigger volume of air, stock mods won't help you need to get rid of the stock housing. That helps to hold heat in which is what causes puke. This is what we noticed as piece by piece was modified.
I became more convinced of this since going with a 42 hrs carb. The bowl is atleast double the 40 and find myself chocking after 15 to 20 min of sitting.

The two times the bike pukes is at start up after a hot bike is parked a short time and when shutting down in same conditions. We also noted that the bike seems to start easier in both case after pumpless and K&N filter similar to MR C air filter mod.

Believe it or not your choice maybe you will find a better way with stock, but I would read puking thread before beating your head against the wall.

ae7168: use a filter. You can pick one up at most autoparts stores. Once your have a filter, you can run it to anywhere you want but I wouldn't put it where oil can tranfer to the ground in front of the rear tire. Maybe run it to under the fuel pump, and if you remove the fuel pump, the filter looks good in its place

why would you remove the fuel pump? Don't I need that? I agree, sending oil to the road infront of the tire is a mistake. I don't what the oil spraying out of the filter on the other side...

If oil is accumulating that bad, your oil level may be overfull or the breather tube clogged and the excessive pressure is pushing oil through with the air. The bike will run without the fuel pump, using a few cheap parts and small mods. There are a few forums on that subject.

I get this carb puke. I had my dealers shop install a Baron's BAK. It sprays oil/gas onto the exhaust pipe for the front cylinder. It also bogs the motor down in the rain. I would love to correct this. I hate the sight of the burned puke on it and if it will cause a fire. The dealer says everything is ok. During the installation of the BAK the "carb vent hose" is shortened and left to vent to the air. The crank case vent hose is connected to the back of the filter. Is this where the puke is coming from? Should I just run this hose to the ground? I also had the dealer remove the AIS. Does this send the unburned fuel into my air filter?

Did you just get it? because the only time i have ever noticed the oil spray on the exhaust pipe directly behind the bottom of my BAK is right after I cleaned the filter and re-oiled it. I think I put a little too much on there and as it barely accumulates, the wind sprays it on the pipe.

So if you just got it, maybe it has a little too much oil on there and is just getting rid of the excess. I cleaned my filter about a month ago and it just stopped spattering the pipe about a week or so ago. now it's fine. The picture shows exactly where i was getting the splatter. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s51/trob500/shiftrod9-1.jpg

Glad to see you got it under control and it didn't happen to you out on the road somewhere.

In reviewing your photos something caught my eye and may be relevent to the fire. On photo # 10 I noticed the the round plastic cover at the rear of the carb had the center missing. I mention this because I just had the trans recall done and the tech said that this same cover was cracked and seaping and he ordered me a new one and it was a common issue. Now prior to this I would notice a fuel smell after shutting off the bike. Smelled like a fuel leak but never found anything. After having that cover replaced, I no longer smell fuel after the bike is shut off. The mechanic gave me the old cover and it was cracked 3/4 around the center nub on it and it was coated in a brown dried fuel residue. I pushed lightly on that nub and the whole center poped out. Back to photo #10 the center of that cover is gone and melted around the edges. This cover is for the Coasting Enrichment Diaphram/Valve. It may have been the source of the fire. Anyway, everyone out there check this cover for cracking, It has spring pressure behind it as well.

Well I hope he does report it to NTSB and they FORCE Yamaha to come up with a REAL solution, I think we all should have a 42 on Yamaha! A pumpless 42 that is!

It gets me sick they get away with such a dangerous flaws as a fuel leak. If you put that much fuel in a tennis shoe and tried to board a commercial flight what would happen to you? a drip is too much.
