Really? I get better mpg in the winter, but had always chalked it up to the fact that the oxygen is more densely packed in cold air - thus better combustion. Maybe winter driving habits on a bike are more fuel-demanding.

I just did a run up and down the Cherohala Skyway (Tellico Plains Tennessee to Robbinsville North Carolina... Started out in Murphy, NC...)
Then put the bike back on the trailer and then did a 80 mile run around the North West corner of Connecticut...
Last gas stop needed 3.75 Gals after a total of 180 miles... That's 48 MPG...!
Secret was... I only got up to 55 MPH a couple of times and only for a half mile or so...
Normally, I get around 40 MPG... (And, I have always used Yami Synthetic...)

I get around 40 on my stock 06 R* due to a freeway heavy wrist. Keep in mind your speedo is off, according to the motorcycle magazines, around 8-10 mph below indicated on your speedo when anywhere above 70 mph.

FWIW, mine was consistently reading 3 MPH faster than I was actually going (according to repeated GPS runs). Then when I changed to the 31 tooth front pulley, I'm a nice, even 5 MPH faster than actual speed, even at 100 MPH (did that for testing purposes only, of course ). 5 MPH off makes it nice & easy to know I'm going "one big tick mark" slower than the speedo says when I glance at it.

Well I think I've got my answer to lower gas milage. Two things. 1) Changed gas brands. I think I may have been using a station serving 85 ethanol. 2) I took the bike on a 364 mile run on Sunday and used 7.1 gallons. That's 50 mpg. Woohoo. Maybe the gasoline and low oil temperature are leading to my lower gas milage. I'm happy now. No more complaining about gas milage. Radar

Radar....I've found the largest variable is your speed. My bike can see a difference in up to 20 MPG depending on if I'm cruising at 55 or 85. The faster I go, the faster it drinks.

I've also noticed that tire pressure can change my mpg as well. If I'm runnijg at max TP for highway use I get great gas milage, but I usually air down about 10-15% if I'm going to be hitting some mountain roads/turns. When I do this my milage will drop respectively.

Just about to turn 15K on the mile counter and for the past 15 tanks I've averaged right at 40 MPG. Best mileage was 50 MPG on a highway trip, worst was 31 MPG and that was all around town stuff. Assuming all things are the same I tend to believe it's my desire to go fast from light to light that causes my mileage to suffer.

All in all I'm happy about getting an average of 200 miles on a tank!

There are many variables that can affect fuel mileage. Tire pressure, gasoline blend, ambient temperature to a degree, riding habits, speed, all kinds of stuff. I have heard people report a lower fuel mileage after going to synthetic, but I am not convinced the oil is the cause.
