Road Star Wide Silverado Wind Shield any input? 2 Years, 11 Months ago
I'm a big guy, fairly broad shouldered and I have wondered... Since I'm looking to order Buck's Lowers already...

What difference would a wider windscreen make? The Yamaha site states 3 inches wider, that doesn't sound like a whole lot, but I would love to have that space when I'm in a coach seat on an airplane!

So if you would, please offer your personal experience switching to a "wide wind shield", was it worth it, does it make a big difference at highway speeds?'

So many accessories, so little cash, I just want to spend wisely!

Thanks for your help!

CS,

By the time the wind velocity profile gets back to your body that 3" will be translated into more clearance. Don't have experience with one vs. the other, but it makes sense that the wider the less buffeting you would feel....

just switched this spring. I went from a small amount of buffeting to none. It was a good investment since my old one was too far gone to see through. It was actually cheaper than many others I priced. I just went with the yama replacement. I'm a little guy but put lots of hours in the seat. The best investment in wind protection was the lowers, for sure.

You might also look at Cee Bailey. They make replacements (use the OEM hardware)and have some interesting options. They also do custom work. When I was into beemers alot of the guys had windscreens made and were pretty happy.

I had a wide windshield on order, but the delivery date kept getting pushed further and further back, so I went with a ceebailey's, which has taller than stock models and a bit wider than stock, but not the 3" wider. It hasn't arrived yet so I can't comment on it.

My long term planis to redo an Electra Glide fairing so I'm not hugely concerned.

If you are looking for replacement plexiglass, I would recommend checking out Rifle, there are close to the same width as the Yamaha wide and do not have the little sliding window around the headlight, they will bolt right in to either silverado or roadstar hardware.

I'm 6'2", 265 lbs., aka "economy sized" , and I have the Yami tall/wide windshield (switched to it from the tall/regular), and it definitely makes a difference in the amount of airflow it diverts. I really like it.

If you go with an aftermarket screen, make SURE you're getting polycarbonate and NOT plex or plastic...kicked up from under a cager's tire, a rock will punch through those like tissue paper.

My 2 cents...

Just got my bike out of shop for some repairs and they put the tall and wide windshield on. Dont care for it though. Not only it looks funny, I cant see over it. Wind buffeting is down a little but who cares i ware googles to protect my glasses any way. Plus when it is hot you need a decent flow of air to keep engine heat off when cruising below 55. Just my prefence. Bofish
