AIS elbow removal 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I'm doing the AIS removal today and everything came off just fine exept those two elbows. They both actully broke at the "L" intersection. I read in the tech artical to try freon, other than that any tips on getting these suckers out of there? I've been using vise grips and they are turning it just doesn't seem like they are comming out at all. I'm sure theyr'e not threaded right? if freon's the best bet how would I go about that? Thanks for any advise.

I used Dust Off, the computer spray to clean off your keyboard, and other tight areas. You just have to turn the can upside down. Vise Grips and Dent Puller, it took me about a hour and a half.

I used an oak dowel, 1 inch diam. about 18 inch long. from the air filter side, and a good few knocks with a hammer.

If all else fails try a piece of threaded rod that fits your vice grips and fab up a slide hammer ....

Trum

Did mine last weekend. Love taken all that stuff off the bike.

Shoot em with keyboard spray for dust. Turn can upside down and blast em good. You can stick a long screw driver in the broken hole from the right side and give it a few good wacks. I used a handheld sledge. Once you get them out a little, wiggle them back and forth( I used channel lock plyers) and pull. Twist and pull, Twist and pull. They'll come out alright but thier pretty deep in the cylinder heads.

I got the slide hammer from Advance. You pay a deposit that you get back when you return the tool. It made things simple. I did drill and tap the plug for a 1/4-20 bolt rather than using the self tapper that came with the kit.

Got 'em. I didn't find a slide hammer, but the spray dust off made a BIG difference. spent around 20 minutes this morning w/ vise grips and a couple bloody knuckles later they came out. I had been saving all the parts for the AIS incase I ever need it to pass inspection, but now that I know how tough they are to remove, I don't think I'll ever put them back (not to mention These elbows are ruined!). Thanks for all the adise here.

Okay, I did this removel and reinstalled my newly ported intake manifold at the same time and now I'm confused about this hose. I think it is a vacume line that went to the stuff I removed, so I don't need it and plug this hole too, or does this go somewhere still that I missed. I still haven't plugged the two holes, cuz I need the 45 auto shell casings. That was the cal. of my last gun, but had to part w/ it. I tied a red rag around it for the pic.
