bike is now naked 2 Years, 7 Months ago

My R* is no completely naked. I have the 12" apes comming in this week and have bought custom painted tins. I am not sure if I will keep that paint job or go for my dream candy red. However, I could use some advice.. Now would be the time to do any wiring. I am thinking of upgrading the coil and plug cables...any thought on that?

I am going to be turning into a solo as i never have a passenger. I don't have the skill to put in hi performance pistons but i assume they would be needed if i add more aggressive cams. Am I also right that other work must be done to get anything out of these pistons?

I am thinking about a 3-6 degree rake triple tree. pretty expensive but i want this to be a very special ride.

I saw some one has a fat rear tire for sale on this board but cant find it now. Shame as I think that would look great.

Seen as this is my clear canvas as such, any other ideas as to what i should do. I am putting on a very sleek looking head light but don't know if i want a light bar or not.

I can use the new tins to lower the rear, or at least make it look lower, but is there anything i can really do to actually lower the bike, front and rear.

I want to have this bike ready for next years trade show that we attend. It is not a show piece but will incorporate all of my technologies and act as a demo for them.

Please chime in with any thought regardless of how wild.
Also, if you know of any good site i might source stuff or at least get some unique ideas please let me know

Cheers

Is this the wheel and tire you were looking for?

For lowering the bike, in the rear you can do the flip and grind, diferent dog bones or air ride. And in the front, I think you're limited to different springs.

Won't the new triple tree that's raked lower the front? That, the dogbones, and drop the rear fender a bit would look good

dogbones? Not sure what they are.

I have been reading on this forum about raking a bike and the raked triple trees seems to cause more issues with handling etc. I have read the 5 main ways to do this, which includes a triple tree but that method seems to be no recommended.

Triple tree does fine, Doc has 6 degree trees, and the forks 2" over..he'll tell you it is a tad bit different moving thru a parking lot, but not enough to cause an issue... There are some adjustable trees available as well..

Somebody broke down the science behind lowering which involved a formula including the rake to get trail or tail, it was a real informative read, but I can't find it . Anyways, if you do something like the baron's raked triple tree it will lower the front about 2" (with the stock front end) and this ( http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/121/128/ ) can drop the rear about 1 1/2". Handling will be different but it won't be terrible with such a slight rake.

I'm running 6-degree trees with a lowered front and no issues. It's "different", but not bad at all. Dropping the rear re-gains the trail. I actually kinda like it...

And, raking via trees is really the only way to get it done without cutting the neck. There's another company that makes a 9-degree(BikersChoice.com), but 6-degree makes a big visual difference. I think I paid $400.00 on Ebay for a Barons 6-degree set. Easy install.

I may do the 9-degree front end this Winter. I'll let the group know how they compare.

Here's a shot from the side, so you can see the profile w/ rake.

I like the look of the raked 6, but I also like having the passing (why do they call them that?)lamps. Is there a way to keep the lamps and still have the raked trees? Is there a way to do it without cutting and welding? You know me, if it can't be bolted on it is above my pay grade.
