I just readjusted mine yesterday, so I had a fresh look at the setup. The heavy duty clamps should go where the pipe meets the muffler. The other clamps just clamp down the heat shield in various places. I know that there are 3 clamps for the crossover heat shield (1 at each end, and 1 about where the downward bend is). I think the end nearest the right side of the bike calls for 2 1/4" clamp... I found that to be a little too long, and replaced it with a 1.5" clamp. No biggie - just do whatever it takes to clamp it down. To be honest, I went to the hardware store and replaced ALL the clamps with more heavy duty ones.

Take your time man... make sure your heat shield is twisted and wiggled enough to create the most possible amount of clearance in the crossover/side cover area. If properly aligned, there should be about 3/16" to 1/4" clearance from the side covers.
