#230506 dchandler60 (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 35 BAK vs Stock w K&N 2 Years, 7 Months ago   Got a question that I have looked thru the search and not found. Is there a HUGE difference between going with say a Barons BAK or replacing the stock filter with a K&N. Okay 2nd ? If there is I see BAK = 300.00 and to replace stock air cleaner with K&N about 58.00, is it worth the price difference to go with a BAK? I have a 2008 and fixin to put the dooleys on it, and want to get the best setup here. Again thanks for the input. I replaced the stock filter on my '08 with the K&N filter. It allows more air in, but not so much to require any other mods, the FI system adjusts accordingly. Biggest advantage for me was the lifetime warranty and better protection for my engine with K&N. As I understand it, yes, a BAK will make a big difference, and when combined with some good aftermarket pipes and a power commander, you'll really feel and hear that difference. But I'll leave that for someone else to comment on. Good luck, and ride safe. With the BAK you're opening her up and letting her breath, thus making more HP and torque. With the K&N you're just replacing with a better filter medium that can be cleaned and won't fall apart like Yamaha's are known too. You'll get a slightly more but unnoticeable amount of air. If you don't mind rejetting the BAK is the way to go and then it only makes sense if you add aftermarket pipes too. David Huge difference. it's not as much the filter element that is restrictive it's the stock housing. And you'll need the power commander. granted, I'm not familiar with the Fi roadie as I am with the carbs. I did. About $50 buck total and a fun rainy day project. Took 2 hours. Made my own brackets with some aluminum stock from Home Depot.
