Do I need an oil change? 2 Years, 7 Months ago
It's about that time of the year to put the bike into hybernation for the winter......snow in our area yesterday. I changed the oil and filter in early September prior to a long road trip. Since then I put about 2000 miles on the bike. Should I change the oil (currently using a synthetic) or is it okay to put the bike "to sleep" as is? How about the oil filter? I knew this was going to happen when I changed the oil in September, but didn't want to take a long road trip without fresh oil.

Thanks.

No, you're good the way you are. Only if you want to go to the extra expense and the "insurance" of knowing you did it the very best that you could would you want to change it again, but otherwise, you should be just fine.

I would say your OK. if you had a couple of thousand miles on it putting around town, I'd say change it, if you made a road trip, the oil is probably clean. How does it look?

I was kinda wondering the same thing. Just changed the oil and filter couple thousand miles ago and now riding season is pretty much over. Hate to drain new synthetic oil if it's still good. Snow sucks

Gotta love NM. I ride all year short of a couple weeks of snow.
Gets colder that the bajeezus though. Does anyone have a suggestion
for a engine heater ? I have no garage so she is parked on the porch
under a cover until the morning. ( 6:00 am )
Sorry for the thread hijack !
Thanks,
Chris

Maybe a good wattage light bulb under the cover with the engine? I dunno it's just a guess.

We might get in the 20's here in Georgia for a few days, but otherwise it's a fairly mild winter compared to how things are further north.

I haven't looked at the oil yet, but I suspect is looks pretty good. As you suggested, the miles were put on during a road trip that took place over a 10 day span. Those are pretty easy miles compared to miles spent on shorter trips. I suspect there is really no reason to change the oil at this time.

Thank you sir,
Gets down in the teens when I ride.
Is the block cast iron on these bikes ?
Just curious if the magnet will stick.
If not I could bungee one on like I did my
Max.
