Naked face 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Okay, I always wear gloves, boots, jeans, protective jacket. In the summer I usually wear a shorty, half helmet though, and leave the full face one in the garage. This must really increase the chance of turning my face to hamburger, but I rationalize it because I can see and hear so much better this way. What do you use?

Full Face! No one needs to see this ugly mug, and I don't need to see it get any uglier

It's funny, I will see some riders with full leathers, gloves, biker boots and NO helmet Doesn't make any sense to me, why not protect the vital part?

I wore a trooper style half helmet for years and then read about a local fellow that had some cage cut into his lane from the left and took his front wheel out from under him. He went face first into the pavement but credited his full face helmet with saving his life. This told me that my half helmet would only give me protection if I hit the road like a dart. It wasn't easy but I've gotten used to a full helmet now. Most of my friends won't wear any helmet at all but to each his own.

I use my naked head. Sometimes I ride without a helmet. When I wear one, I wear a half helmet. I think I will get a full face helmet for winter.

When I was younger, I hated wearing a helmet. Gotten more than one ticket for not wearing one back then. I made agreement with my wife and daughter to wear one when I got my Roadstar five years ago and I haven't gone back on that promise yet. Good thing as a few years back when a hit and run accident bounced my head on the road hard enough to give me a serious concussion in spite of the brain bucket, I live to tell the story. Full face is hard for me to wear, however. Not bad in the winter, but the rest of the time I’m all about the shorty. I’d like to get one of those Kevlar helmets, but money being how it is that may not happen any time soon. Other things on the list first; new kilt, Blue Ray player, or a new sissy bar.

I feel naked if I am not wearing a helmut. Use a half in the summer and a flip up full face in the colder weather or when I am on a long trip. You just can not beat the full face in the rain.

The Hurt report (ironic title isn't it?) documented that over 65 percent of crashes resulted in facial impact or abrasion, and almost all helmets less that full face in the study were at least partially pulled off the head.

The 3 street crashes I have had ALL resulted in busted chin bars. I'll keep wearing the full face. Also, on short trips, the distance from your head to the ground is damn near identical to the same distance on a long trip, and that defines most of the risk. When you fall down, your head goes with you. Sit in a chair, and imagine doing a Benny Hill style tipover without sticking your arm out, and landing on a hardwood floor. You're gonna take a shot right above the ear. Add forward speed to that, and the friction of your (hopefully) jacket-clad shoulder rolls you forward, onto your face. that's how it happens folks. Unless you are a road racer, who is semi-prepared to fall off the low side in a corner, keeping your head off the ground in all but impossible.

Ride Safe.

I always gear up when I ride.....

Helmet wise, it's about 50/50..... 50% of the time I wear a 3/4 helmet. 50% of the time I wear a full face helmet.

Either way I go, I always wear a helmet.....

Here in Washington State one must wear a helmet and for me it is a full face. Having bounced on the road more than once I will wear nothing else.

As you can see in my signature I do wear a helmet , but it is not a full face , heck it's not even DOT , yes I know . . . but I tried using full face , half , and others and nope , I just can not seem to get a custom to wear a DOT helmet , they are way to freakin big and heavy

p.s. I know they are big and heavy because they are supposed to help your melon avoid injuries , but I can not ride with them on , so yes I only wear Novelty helmets
