A detailed description of my trip to Salem 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Well, we made it through our longest trip so far and now I'm here to bore you with all the details!
From: Southern New Jersey
To: Salem, Mass
When: Friday, October 9 to Monday October 12
OK, I guess I don't need to be that detailed. We left Friday afternoon around 4:30. Rode about 180 miles to Newburgh, New York when it started raining lightly. Got a motel for the night. Hung out in the bar and had a few drinks listening to the live band. Nice time. Ate a late night snack at Denny's and wound up with serious indigestion. Gotta love Denny's huh?
The next morning, we got up and had to try to get a memory stick for my wife's camera. Found that her camera is obsolete (5 years old!!!) and the memory stick is no longer available! Bought a new camera. Went to Orange County Choppers and spent $110 on shirts and souvenirs. Nice place but bring your Visa! Hit the road around 11 am and rode pretty much straight thru to Boston. Riding on Saturday sucked. It is all interstates and the wind was really strong. I'm not much for interstates to begin with, but when you are doing 70 mph on a 4 lane road and the road bends as it crests the hill while another 3 lane highway merges on your right and you're doing all you can to stay between the dotted lines... well, that's not fun riding to me.
Had a hard time finding a hotel Saturday. Turns out that October is the busy month for Salem. Duhh. Guess I should have booked ahead but I didn't want to add the stress of having to keep an schedule. Oh, well.
Saturday night was cool. Walked around and had dinner at a really cool place called Rockafellas. Great food and live band was rockin' hard at 9:30.
Sunday we just walked around and hit the museums. I have alot of pictures that my wife took in the museums but they're kind of boring if you weren't there so I'll spare you those. I've included a link which will hopefully work to see afew pics. We wanted to take more during the ride, but my wife was unable to manipulate the camera while wearing the heavy gloves she needed to keep warm.
The ride home was not bad but it made for a long day. I had to work on Tuesday, so we had to make the whole trip home in one day. What made it worse is that it was cold enough that the bike would not start in the morning. I had to wait for a maintenance guy at the hotel to give me a jump. Guess it's time to upgrade the starter/cable, huh?
Took about 12 hours but we made it without any problems.
Total miles - about 900, not exactly sure because the tripometer zeroed out when the battery died on the bike.
