Barons Needle # question 2 Years, 7 Months ago
|
|
anyone know the id number on/ for the Barons needle . I have a 1158j-72w that came with my Kuryakyn high five air intake . Currently running on the first position from the top . Cant help but notice most using the Barons needle are running 4th position from the top . my main is a Mikuni 175 , the smallest that came with the Kury Kit . Also , anyone find it odd that the stock main is a Mik. -182.5 and even though we add free flowing Air and Exhaust ( my new Roadhouse Duals for instance ) everyone is installing Leaner Mainjets ....most seem to be using Mik. - 172.5 jets .

First, the stock Mikuni needle is MUCH fatter than the Baron's or any of the others. That's why it uses a larger jet. I had the same thought at one time myself because I had never seen the stock needle.
I don't have the number for the Barons needle but I run an Dynojet on the 3rd clip.

From what I have seen in past recommendations for that needle is clip on 2nd groove (count from blunt end) On the RSR forum most are either 167.5 or 170 with a ported manifold. I'm running a 42hsr and stock jet is a 165, was way to rich according to air/fuel monitor, down to a 160 now. I did run the stock carb with Barons needle 3rd groove spacer 2 washers and a 167.5.

1st clip sounds way too lean. unless that kit is using a fatter pilot jet or some serious pms turns.

Hmm , The Carb Guru and others say that past 3/4 throttle or so you are entirely on the Main Jet , If that were true we would all need the same size main Jet for WOT running . Seems to me there must still be some needle in the orfice even at full twist . I guess when running on the Needle ( cruise Speeds ) its the relationship betwen the size of the main jet and the amount of needle diameter in the orfice that contols the flow . SO different combinations could still give you the same amount of fuel ...starting to make sense why so many different jet sizes and needle positions are used and the Damm things still run great !
I tied Barons info , but they either dont know or wont say which Mikuni needle they use .
