Silicone is not compatible with gasoline AT ALL.

It swells up to about ten times its size, gels and falls into the tank.

When it stirs up or fuel level is low, it gets sucked into the fuel line.

Don't ask me how I know....

For some reason it seems you're either running rich on the front cylinder or not burning fuel completely.

The fuel is collecting in the exhaust pipe and igniting when the cylinder exhausts again.

I would suggest a SVS problem on the front cylinder.

Try the tissue test first.

Help Again Please,
Fired the bike up and cannot seem to get idle adjusted correctly!!!

Hit the throttle, its coughs & spits a flame out the pipes... I have V&H Long shots & a BAK on an 05 Roadie!!!

I took her out last week and had the same problem but was able to adjust idle while down the road!!!

Other issue is I have never been able to push the choke knob all the way in since I had the bike(Meaning, If I

do the bike stalls or won't run correctly) I've played with the idle screw and choke all day ,but can't seem to

find the sweet spot!!! Should I check and or adjust something else???

And Finally, Battery: Its charging at 12.7 Volts. Manual states 12.8 Could this be the problem??

Craaaap its Biketoberfest

As regards the battery , 12.7 is OK at idle , but what really matters is whats going on at speed. If you have an ohm meter , stick it on the battery mode , then read your battery at a good rev. Not blowing the motor up rev., but better than an idle. You Need between 13.5 and 14.5 volts at that point. BB

Thanks, BB
Did the rev check and found the Batt is charging at 13.5 volts...

Also found the rear cylinder pipe a little loose, Got about a quarter turn out of both bolts.
Seems to have helped, but still coughs and back-fires when I goose the throttle!!

Any Ideas???

Thanks
Steef

nope, a battery at idle should be somewhere around 13.8v to 14.1v. The regulator on this rectifier/regulator has an output of 14.1v - 14.9v non-loaded as per service manual, but of course when we test the battery at idle the rectifier is loaded so the voltage will drop a bit but it's not going to drop to battery voltage unless there is some kind of issue. No different than a cars charge system other than the cars is one unit, ours is a 2 piece system.

Hey Erbman02,Thanks for responding!!!

Ya think this might be my problem?? It only shows 12.5 volts at idle, but does go to 13.5 when revved up...

I've had battery issues in the past!!!

Can anyone answer my other questions

Thanks Steef

Hi Curt, Thanks for responding!!!

Well let me finish the rest of my history!!!

Last week I was having the same problem adjusting my idle.. Got about 2 miles down the road and had to pull over because my RPM's were way to high(After warm up)!!! Dialed the idle back a bit and seemed to be fine....
Another strange thing,, Since I've owned the bike, ****I've always had the choke out about half way****...
If I push it all the way in,,it dies!!! Is this normal???

Got to a stretch of road and was able to open her up,,, Heard a "load valve rattle" from under the seat, but continued with my ride with a little hesitation now and then but other then that, it ran fine!!! Idle was good at stops, start-up was fine with no popping or back fire!!!

I finished the ride home and just couldn't leave it alone and tried to adjust the idle again to smooth out the hesitation (Bad move I suspect) I left it at that until today when I ran into the same problem again.. Does not want to go... I did find that my rear exhaust flange was loose about a quarter turn on the bolts, Thought maybe it was an exhaust leak causing the problem,,,, She still is coughing and (Maybe) back firing a little.

As I was looking through forum post, I finally decided to go to the AP store and bought a spray can of sea foam and try that tomorrow..... Any other info based on what I told ya would be "Greatly Appreciated"!!

Thanks Steef

No Steef that is NOT normal to have to run with the choke out. You must have a very big air leak somewhere or some one has jetted your bike really lean. I am leaning towards the air leak. Check all you lines and hoses, cjeck the intake manifold for leaks even where the carb attaches. Make sure the manifold bolts are tight. I put flat washers on my manifold bolts to spread the torque over a larger area after I ported mine. I really feel a lot of my problems was the crappy flanges on the OEM manifold they really suck. Lets us know what you find.
