Hey Erbman02,Thanks for responding!!!

Ya think this might be my problem?? It only shows 12.5 volts at idle, but does go to 13.5 when revved up...

I've had battery issues in the past!!!

Can anyone answer my other questions

Thanks Steef

Ya need to test the charge system completely, the tech article on the site is the correct way to test it, don't bother with the service manual test, not worth the paper it's written on. Sounds like it could be one of the phases from the stator failing.

Any time you check the charging system you should be off idle (@ a high RPM) depending where your idle is set you could be at battery voltage at idle and not have a problem. If your putting out 13.5 or higher at high rpm you don't have a problem charging. And it is the same on a car. Also depending on the accesories you have turned on, your battery voltage can show even lower at an idle (car or bike) and be working just fine. Put a meter on your car and start turning on things and watch the voltage drop if you have a rear window defroster turn that on last and watch your voltage drop under 12 at an idle. then bring up the rpm and watch it climb into the 14's Don't get off track this problem started when you got silicon into your fuel system. I would stay there until I found the problem

Hello All,

Well,,, I pulled off the tank, removed the carb, and was wondering(since I'm there) Should I pull off the carb joint and check the O-rings??? How much trouble is it going back together??? I did replace the AIS cap plug with a new one!!! ***Which brings me to a question***(Odd thing I did when I brought the bike home) I replaced a cap on a little tube located just on the front side of the carb at the bottom, facing rearward.....Cap was not the right size so I put a tie wrap around it... I noticed it pulled off easy when I wanted to check the cap size for the AIS... ****Could this be my air leak****????? I did not see a proper name for this tube in the manual....Just a diagram of it... Also I'm going to replace the plugs,Fuel Filter and vacuum lines while I'm under there!!!

Did I mention Mom was Miffed !!!!

Thanks

Steef

know how you feel steef. hope you find the issue.

update on my bike. Found the problem and bike is running like a champ. thanks for all the help. It ended up being the ais rubber plug. previous owner pulled the ais off.So I didn't know what vacuum line people were plugging up. Saw a pic online and that was the culprit. the rubber plug was old and developed a hole. popped on a new cap and presto bike runs like it did before. can't believe a little air can cause so much trouble.

That is why I solder mine closed and give any one that buys my ported manifolds the option free of me doing it to the one they buy as well as laking out the nibs for oversize o-rings.

the original jetting was 195 dj main jet and stock needle. I ended up buying a Baron's Jet kit. Installed that and it ran better than it had originally but with backfire till the problem was found. So I kept the baron's kit in it.

currently running a 170 mikuni jet, 4th clip on the needle. I have a forcewinder intake & pipes no baffles. Running like a Champ.

Hi Guy's,

Have my Roadie apart and pulled off the Fuel Filter(Glass w/plastic filter element inside)
I found one of the plastic nipples on the outgoing side of the filter had split !!!
Pretty good size hole, But I never noticed any gas leak from that area

My question is**** Could this be my Idle,Choke, Air Leak issue????*****

I have replaced the cover on the Carb Joint AIS tube and going to replace the plugs and
vacuum lines today.

Comments????

Thanks

Steef

Not real likely to be causing any issue if it isn't leaking any fuel. Of course you want to replace it before it is a problem.

By the way, to answer a question from before... that tube at the bottom of the carb pointing to the rear... that's the drain nipple for the float bowl. Nothing goes on it but it doesn't hurt if you have put a cap on it.

Is it still running good? No more problems?
