Its not show chrome for sure. Like someone else just pointed out, the EPA has put some stringent requirements into the production of chrome. My first Roadstar was a 2000 that had lived its life a mile from the beach in San Diego. It had pitting problems on the heads and in a couple of other places.

If you have exposure to salt on the roads or in the air you really need to wash it regularly and keep wax on the parts that will keep it (no go on the heads - it melts off).

No problems with mine I only wash it a about 5-6 times a year. The rest of the time I clean it up with FastWax.

My chrome hasn't had any pitting at all. A swift breeze and it'll have spotting or water marks, but that is easy enough. I took a ride to the NJ beach a few weeks ago, and back in the rain. Didn't clean it until the following evening, and had no issues, everything cleaned right up. The heat shields on my cobra pipes on the other hand... Slightly disappointing.

I also keep a layer of chrome wax on everything too. Good gentle wash and dry, then application of chrome wax and paint wax, does amazing job at 1. making it easier to keep clean, and 2. adding a protective layer between the elements and your bike.

When I purchased my 99 R* in May it looked as if it was never cleaned (got it cheap). A lot of the chrome hade a green oxidation to it. After cleanup it up with chrome polish it has been fine and sparkeling ever since and had no pitting. My wash regimine is a soaking with "Simple Green" and hose off. In between clean up is with a squirt bottle of window cleaner and a good soft bath towel. It only needs a thorough wash after a good rain ride.

Mine has seen 4 seasons of Ohio weather, i can count on one hand how many times I have took a water hose to it total in 32K miles, No pitting, no rust, I do clean it and wax it with regular stuff, I use Turtle Wax Ice the most. I've seen some really nasty Ohio weather, snow with salt and too cold to wash for days, you get the picture? And no one would know it to look at it. 07 Chrome is right on on this midnight! Stored in Shop, not temp controlled and driven to work and stored outside 2 - 3 days under a yami Cover.

Gee I guess I better explain, this is pic of front tire and fork, what you see is Ice on bike after about 65 miles of snow, ice, salty mix is plastered to the bike, Had to let it melt off over three days. If that didn't pit it, what will? Yes I rode through that, Not too many people can follow me. And sometimes I wish I wasn't there myself I get caught in it every winter. Never planned. Just quick Ohio Lake effect snow storms.

I think just keep it waxed. Ice wax is best, easy off and on no white chalk so no worry, put it on wipe it off goes on anything. Ice can be sprayed and left on the heads, it will not chalk up or burn. Looks like a new head. Protects, Also Ice can be squirted into the cracks and left for protection. Search Turtle Wax Ice Polish, As good as it is the Ice Liquid Clay sucks. Ice can be used on anything, wiped off or left on, rubber, metal, paint, chrome, plastic, leather, I have found nothing it won't go on harmlessly. Try it yourself.

I've never cleaned my bike with the hose. I use furniture polish and diaper cloths, almost exclusively. Once in a while, I'll throw a coat of Nu-Finish wax on the painted surfaces, and I've begun using Rain-X on the windshield. I only clean it about once every six weeks or so... A little honest road dust never hurt nuthin'...
