Bike will not start with choke 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Hey guys,
Since I re-jetted my bike I find that the thing will not start with the
choke at all. Before I could open the choke fully it would crank right
up and run. Now I find If I open the choke at any position it's a no go.
I have to give it a few twists of the throttle then manually hold it open
to keep it running. If I release the throttle it dies. After it's warm
no problems. Currently have 175 main, needle 3rd clip off soft seat and
the pms has been tried at 3 turns and 3 1/2 turns with no change. I'll try
2 1/2 turns today assuming a rich condition.I did pull the choke cable
out of the carb when I pulled the carb, ( just unscrewed the brass nut and
slide the cable right out of the carb )is it possible that I damaged something
in the cable ? It slide right back in. Any input would be appreciated, snow
is ready to fly and standing out there holding the throttle open for
10 minutes will suck.
Thanks,
Chris

175 main seems a bit rich I always go back to the last thing I touched. If it ran ok before touching the carb recheck the carb. The choke cable assy is pretty simple but, can't hurt to check it again.

BTW are your jets Minuki or Dyna? (difference in sizes)

Dyno jets which would be between a 157.5 and a 160 in mikuni.
Would the main effect start up though ?
I beleive that dynojet says their kit shoudn't effect
idle circuit. Hell, I don't know. I usually don't jack
with carbs because I always seem to bump into problems.
I know it's something simple just frustrating though.
If ya think of anything let me know.
Thanks,
Chris

I'm guessing that you bumped the float and got it out of adjustment. According to whether you have a BAK or modified airbox that jet sounds a little lean.

The elevation for Brandon, MS is 482 feet I am at 432 feet at Dallas TX and I am running a 172.5 Mikuni, 3rd slot with two silver washers, 35 pilot. Your WAY to lean for you elevation try going to a 180 and move the clip to 4th slot. OR move the clip to the 5th slot and do the WOT.

I have the same problem as the OP. However there's a lot here that is above my head. is there a good documentation about what all these numbers and such are so I can figure out how to solve my problems?

Yea, Im at 6460ft. Should I gather that all the other circuits
will effect my choke in the morning ? Other than that the bike
runs good.
Thanks,
Chris

Yes, actually every part of the carb works with every other part in your carb. Some more than others. Float level will affect everything and that's still my guess as to the problem.
As far as your jetting, if you have a free breathing airbox then from what I read it should be close with a 175 DJ.
