New bars and risers 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I recently got some 8" risers and flat bars, and I installed them on the bike. It looks ok but I dont think it fits well with the style. Also the handling is a little sketchy to me since around 40mph on decel the front end likes to get the death wobbles and if not ready, could cause severe problems. I posted in another thread but I figured I would post some pictures of the new mod. I am thinking of going with the Big Johnson bars or the Star Bars with the stock bar mount.

Sorry guys, the picture I wanted to put in my post is too big, I am in the process of reducing it and I'll get a pic up as soon as I can

IMHO I don't think the bars are causing the death wobbles. I would be looking some where else. Did you have that problem with the stock bars? What all have you done to it so far?

handle bars have nothin to do w/ a death wobble . Once you get your new tires or look into your triple tree (loose). Try the star bar.........very nice. I can let go of the bars and coast down my long 1/2 mi downhill leaving my house to adjust my chit! Just like the old 10 speed days.....never any wobble , shake, or shimmy what soever

I figured out how to resize the pictures, here is one from today but I took off the rear seat which gave a better look. I'll have to shoot another pic when the light returns. Yes I had the same problem with the stock bars, I couldnt let go for very long without getting the wobbles on decel. It very well could be the front tire as I'm sure its the stock front tire (12,xxx mi) and I know it is close to needing replacement. I never had this problem on my vstar but I just thought the rake was different and thats what caused it, then the new bars made it worse.

I am getting used to the new look and feel but I am still unsure at this time if I want to keep going the direction I am. I think I want to keep the classic cruiser look and practicallity for long rides.

Thanks every one for the great info, I'm pretty sure its the front tire. The dealer did say something about it being cupped, but I didnt know exactly what that meant, appearently its no good. I'll be getting a new front tire soon to match my new rear
