I ran what came in it a LONG time. Seems to shift easier with the RP. Glad you found the how to on a search. I always try to title how to's so they can be found. Not always happens.

MS1700, thanks for a great post! This is exactly what I needed to know. Appreciate the pics as well. I have V&H Longshots and it looks like the pipes are gonna have to come off to complete (might be a challenge getting gear case warmed up and expecting to remove pipes...hmmm). Thanks again.

You can use a oil pump like they use in servicing Boat motor gear boxes and get the lube out with that through the fill hole if you can only get to that. They work quite well especially on warm oil.

Thanks MS1700, but I am replacing the drive cover as well as gear oil. Thought I could loosen pipes at the heads and remove cover, but looks like pipes are coming off.

I have the V&H longshots. Leave them on, and do it cold, it just takes longer to drain out, that's all. Draining the transfer case is easy, but the trick to refilling is to use a foot and a half long chunk of clear tubing (3/8" I think?). Just cut the nipple on the oil bottle so it fits tight into the tube and slide the tube into the fill hole. And make sure the bike is blocked up level and that the little fill level plug is out. Hold the bottle upside down and squeeze. Be a bit patient and you'll be fine. When it's full, the oil will weep out of the little fill level plug hole. Also make sure you use a LARGE flat blade that FITS SNUGLY into the large fill plug so you don't make any marks. The metal is very soft but the plug isn't in too tight. Also make sure you put the bottom plug in before you fill up the transfer case, otherwise all you've done is flush the transfer case out, and then you have to go to the store and buy more oil.... not that it happened to me.... I'm just saying... Other than that, piece of cake.

Shoshin is right. I have V&H Longshots on my 2000, just take your time, dont get in a hurry and you dont even have to take the pipes off. Like he said, definatly do it cold. or you'll wish you did.
