Loud exhaust 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I recently purchased a used Kuryakyn Pro R hypercharger and a set of used Cobra Slash Cut exhausts with header pipes. Cobra claims the following "Easy to install slip-on mufflers with 3-1/2 inch bodies will liven up the exhaust note on your Roadstar without upsetting your neighbors." I thought they were extremely loud at idle and acceleration. I took the baffles out and now I know why!
Any ideas on what type of packing I should use and what is the best way to secure it in place?

I would use muffler packing from vance and hines or similar. comes in a sheet and can be wrapped around the baffles and secured with heavy gauge copper wire

How much of a difference will the insulation make?

Should knock the sound down by about 1/3rd to 1/2.

How tight should the packing be around the baffle?

Need pack it tight enought that it won't blow apart when you gun it. I think they make some kind if straps that goes around it to keep it from coming unwrapped. I used cooper wire to hold mine when I fabracated baffles for my HK's. The Bubs I have now have sraight thru torque chambers and they are loud.

I added the fiberglass wrap to my V&H Short Shots too. I also added two metal plates drilled with 1/8 inch holes in each baffle. It made the bike quiet enough I can start it in the garage without hurting my ears. The only problem is my gas mileage went down because I like to hear the bike now.
