Any suggestions on a new battery? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
well, the battery is finally going in my 05 R*. Anybody out there have any suggestions on what to buy - best, worst, cheapest, most expensive?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I'd say walmart too. I have truck batteries from there. A month before the warranty is up i take them in for new ones. They odn't require receipt, they go off of it saying "3 year warranty" and the punch out of the month and year. Each time you get a new one, you basically extend your warranty at no charge. It may be the last battery you ever buy.

if you want to switch to an agm battery (absorbed glass mat), go to Advance Auto and get the etx20L battery in their motorcycle parts lane. It's a 270 cca battery, comes pre charged with no acid to add and very slow discharge rate. cost is $92.00 and no messing around with getting the battery ready for install.

G-Man! 545 CCA for 5 seconds. A bit pricey, but well worth the money...http://gmanindustries.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=61

Got upgrades like HC pistons? If so go for high CCA's.

Same battery in my Star as Jon D

ETX20L 12v 18Ah 270 CCA AGM Sealed Lead Battery Replaces YTX20L-BS

I got mine at Advance for 91 bucks.
I put an Advance Auto Parts purchased AGM in my 1972 CB750 Honda chop and it's mounted in a horseshoe oil tank and gets hot as hell all the time, it's 3 years old in a rigid frame, spent last winter in storage in NY and this May I rode it from Salisbury, NC to Rockingham, NC and back not knowing it wasn't charging until I got it home and went to put it on the battery tender.

I have heard of 5 year old AGM batteries still taking a charge like they're new.
I'll never buy anything else.

I've tried looking at Wal-mart and I can't find anything for the road star in their books. What is the part number for their batteries?

agm batteries are great in the winter also. with the low discharge rate they can sit for long periods of time and still be ready to crank right up.
