Fuel tank mod 2 Years, 7 Months ago
|
|
Thank you, thank you to all of the Roadie riders on here that figured out the fuel tank mod! I finally did it! I cut 3 1" grooves in the filler neck with a good, sharp cold chisel. I went to fill up before a ride to Starkville to watch MS State get creamed by FL. The fuel went in much more easily with no "burping" & nozzle clicking off. I rode all the way to Starkville, back to my house & to work & back twice before switching to reserve! I went 175 miles before reserve, & that was averaging 75-85 mph most of the time! I might be able to touch 200 if I drive more conservatively! Thanks again to the guys that were brave enough to go before me & post it on here! I'm more excited about this mod than any other I've learned on here!

Easiest MOD you can do, and no ill effects, no cost to do, takes just a couple of minutes (if that) and your done.

Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: I SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. John F. Kennedy Aug. 1963

My only concern is when filling up high with this mod and, with warm weather or sunshine on the tank, the gas will expand and run out the vent.
I've had that happen with my boat a number of times.
I think the mod would be useful to get more miles on, but if it suts when full, it may overflow.
Has this happened to anyone?
EDIT: Sorry: suts = expands (I'm on drugs from a root canal job )

Suts???
I think it has been stated clearly... do the mod, fill the tank, but only if you're going to ride a distance!
I did the mod. I fill my tank full. And I only do so if I'm going to be riding a good distance. When I do so, I get about 200 miles on the tank... 185 at least.
You only need to ride about 30 miles or so after a "super"-fill and you'll have lowered the level enough to avoid any problem.

The vent comes out under the bike below the side covers, around the shock area, IF it did overflow it would be no more dangerous than the puking gas problem Yamaha engineered right into the bike from the factory. It's a great Mod to do....brilliant! Fuel up faster, get more range!

WOW..... I haven't done the mod and my Roadie gets 185miles plus out a fill up, before I even hit reserve.
Of course, I don't ride like a maniac either...... Got 147 miles on this tank of fuel so far ( almost down to 1/2 tank showing on the fuel gauge )
