Spark plugs 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I am sure this has been already brought up in another thread, but I couldn't find it...I am going to be pulling the tank tomorrow (I'm installing a jet kit and fuel pump relocation kit) and thought I would go ahead and change the plugs. I just picked up the bike and am not sure when they were changed last. What plugs have you guys found to be the best. Please give the model number too if you have it handy so I can pick up a set in the morning. Thanks!

Them thar be the ones. Be sure to coat the plug threads with some anti-seize lube so they'll come out easier next time.

In a word; yes. I've found them to be smoother running & easier starting. Had the non-Iridiums in before the change. These definitely outperform the stockers. Several of the site members are using them now & all seem to be saying pretty much the same thing. Although I've not personally checked, several have also claimed higher gas mileage using Iridiums. They cost a little more, but well worth it IMHO. Btw, if you get them DON'T gap them. They have a very fine electrode that is easily broken. They come pre-gapped.

old english trick....

get a bit of rubber fuel line about 4-5" long that fits over the porcelain part of the plug, and start the plug by just turning the rubber tube.

if the plug starts in the thread badly the rubber will slip before any damage happens to the thread. it also makes starting plugs in a difficult area a lot easier.

lube for plug threads? - i use coppaslip (antisieze with copper) which does the job.

So far everyone that has used them say that there is a noticable differance in mpg and performance. But they are between $7-$10 ea depending on where you get them. I think advance auto is $7.99. It is a 7803 or DPR7EIX-9

irridium's are the way to go but I don't change them as often as the manual says, every 8 thousand miles can get expansive
