Just trying to figure this dude out! 2 Years, 3 Months ago
OK,here goes. The bike had 22K on it when I got it, and I have put about 1200 miles on it. It has been very well mainmtained. Not having ridden for years and loving the bad a-- sound I guess I have maybe ignored the fact that I may have a problem. My neighbor (being pretty sharp mechanically) sayes it has a miss to it. I don't want to hear that, but I'v got enough sence to pay attention to him when he speaks. I pulled the plugs and the two on the right are carboned a little, but nothing real excessive. The left side look good and burning clean. I do notice a little backfiring now (intake) that the weather is getting cooler,(don't know if that has any bearing or not). Sometimes I have to pull a little choke after it has set for just a little while when the weather is cool. I am wondering if I showld start with a new set of plugs and go from there. Any and all help appreciated.

I would start with a new set of plugs - buy the iridiums NGK DPR7EIX-9. You could also run a little Sea Foam through the gas.

I just recently heard of sea foam. Is it a gas treatment? Every tank, or ever so often. Thanks for the input.

Just a splash of Seafoam in the tank after fill up , use 87 octane only , and rev her up through the gears regularly. An apple a day...... BB

That is a matter of opinion...it won't hurt to run a little in every tank. Personally I think it matters how often you fill the tank or should I say how often you burn a full tank. If you use the bike daily and fill it every week then I would say maybe once a month run some. If you are like most and only fill your bike every couple months I would use it every time. There is also a shock treatment you can do before a oil change which uses more seafoam to correct an already existing problem like SVS. The exact procedure is listed on this site somewhere. I am sure someone will chime in with the exact location of the article. Good Luck!

You and I both, but it seems there are alot of people around here that have a bike just as a conversation piece. My father is one. He had a Road King that he just sold, he put about 500 miles on it in a year. I have to admit as well there has been some months when work was CRAZY and my bikes weren't started for a month or so. Shame on me!

Like Big Bear say 4oz in a tank every now and then. If you ride mostly in town at low speeds then it isn't going to like it. These are criusers and are made to run 70-80 mph with a bit of strain. You need to crank it all the way to the limiter in all the first three gears every day, ya vcan't hangon long enough to hit the limter in the last two. In short ride it like you stole it. A good 300 mile trip every weekend at 70-80 will keep it well and happy.
