Ok as a few of you have already read I recently purchased a 2003 RS. I have been on here a couple days and really like what I see. Seems like alot of good guys here. Anyway, I though it might be cool to walk you guys through my so called low budget bar hopper. I will welcome all the suggestions or comments (good and bad). Basically this is what I started with it is a 2003 with 27,000 miles. It is in average condition but not exactly what I am looking for...

Here is the tally so far...
Bike - $3500
New Front Brake Line - $25.50
Jet Kit - $40.00
K&N Air Cleaner - $85.00
Barons Fuel Pump Relocation Kit - $45.00
AIS Plugs - $8.00
Carb Bowl Bolts - $2.00

The brake line was needed b/c the guy who put the apes on soldered in an extension and it was leaking. It is still on its way. I ordered a stainless 30" line with 2 new 10MM Banjo fittings.

The Jet kit is a DynoJet and I installed it per the instructions for aftermarket exhaust and air box. If anything I figured this would be a good starting point - Needle clip 4 slots down, 195 main jet, Mixture screw out 3.5 turns. It is already installed - DONE.

I also installed a new set of plugs that I had left over from one of my other bikes - NGK DPR7EA-9 - I will consider this a freebie - DONE.

I received the K&N kit today, but am waiting to put it on until I receive the pump relocation kit and the AIS plugs. The rest of the AIS was already removed, but the guy just put some cheesy clamps on the fittings to block them off. I already pulled the old fittings out - wasn't too bad.

The Vance and Hines longshots had baffles in them and I removed them b/c I like LOUD pipes!

I already removed the bags and windshield and plan on taking the rear rack and front passing lights off to clean it up a bit. Plus I can sell them to subtract from the total I will be into this project. I also spent the better part of a day removing bolts and cleaning them up or replacing them So far the only bolts I had to buy were the 4 small Allens to replace the lousy phillips on the carb bowl.

I will try to get as many pics as I can to document all the upgrades and changes.

OK I didn't get much done today, but the weather was beautiful so I took a couple pics before it got dark.



Now with the front and rear lights removed...



A close up of the rear fender. I need to find a tag bracket and integrated rear light. When I first bought the bike I was planning on painting it, but the color is starting to grow on me some...



The parts I have for sale so far (if any of you guys need some of this stuff let me know it will just be going on eBay if not)...




...also does anyone have any suggestions of what to do to cover the exposed area behind the headlight? Looks kind of ugly. I have used a cover made by pro-one in the past that has turn signals built in. If I can find it reasonably I will buy one again.

Oh I also removed these 2 bracket that used to have a reflector bolted to them. Reflector = Not Cool! I have cut off the part that held the reflector and the wire part that wraps around the brake line. I haven't put them back on yet - I am going to let the paint dry overnight...
