wot test 2 Years, 6 Months ago
I did the wot test and my bike had no change when I let off the throttle a 1/8th turn, which according to the article means slightly lean. I was wondering if someone could explain why this means its lean. I'm trying to figure out as much about carb tuning I can. Thanks

Violett,
As I understand the "WOT" test, if the engine RPM increase, the bike speed increases or your bike just "sounds better" when you roll back on the throttle, then there is some degree of lean condition.

If none of these things change, then you are either "OK" or perhaps rich. The WOT does not check for "rich".

If you run up to about 35 or 40 in 2nd, hold it there for a few seconds and then slam the throttle shut, you should just hear a smooth growl as you decel. If you hear a "pop-pop-pop" during this decel, that is another indication of "lean"

Rich is indicated by "black smoke", black residue on the end of your pipes and lousy fuel mileage.

Just my 2 cents.
