mr shamrock, first check your vin number for a punch above it to see if yours has been done. the dealers are supposed to centerpunch a dot above the vin when the recall is completed

I had mine checked at the dealer. They said it was done. However, mine doesn't have the punch above the VIN.

Same here, no punch mark. Previous owner said it was done, but I just had to check myself to feel better about it. Called Yamaha Corp, gave them the VIN, and they verified it and even told me the dealer that did it. Fortunately, it was a local dealer with a very good reputation...

i don't know if you thought about having the dealer installing a piston kit since they are going to have the bike apart. yamaha is paying for the labor of the trans recall installation anyway. you anly pay for the parts. i want to do it on my 1700 but its going to cost me $1100 bucks, mainly for labor.

Yeh,me too. I had 5th gear go out on me the other day with only 8,000 miles on it.Found out about the recall. I have NO punch mark either. The local dealer looked it up and said mine has already been done. Now I am wondering if it was really done or not. Will do the work myself this winter to find out exactly what went wrong.Heard a clink, clink sound and 5th was gone.Every other gear works fine.

I have since spoken with the dealer. He was very appoligetic for the situation. I asked if they could check the plugs while it was apart, stuff like that. He said no problem, they'll put in new NGK's, give the bike a full once over, do the basic stuff it needs free of charge, and deliver it in enclosed trailer to my house once it's done, since the weather has degraded considerably in the area since I dropped it off. There were a bunch of days it was nice since the scheduled expected service date, but now it's high of mid 40's to low 50's for the forseeable future. I'm glad they're offering to help out due to the situation at least, not that I would have expected it. I just want my bike back.
