O.K. An Update

I replaced plugs, Fixed the broken fitting on the fuel filter housing and replaced the rubber plug on the AIS tube...

Put it all back together, fired her up.... Sea Foamed the carb and seems to be running better,,,,BUT....

I still can't push the choke all the way in or it stalls. I have increased my idle, but who knows if its the right setting since I don't have an tach

Still wants to die when I hit the throttle if I don't have the idle up some what high....

Thoughts????

Thanks

Steef

Hi Steef, new to this site but have been riding bikes on the street for over 38yrs and also have over 38yrs experience with rebuilding & tuning multi carbs on motorcycles and muscle car carbs too along with rebuilding motors etc so maybe i can help you out.

I read everything you have done up to now & you have most bases covered but i have not seen any mention of checking/adj the accl pump that should be on your carb whch can cause the off idle stumble issue you are still experiencing unless i missed a reference to it.

I have an 06 1700 silverado and it has a an accelorator pump on the carb and if thats not working properly/wron out and or isnt adj properly to give a nice shot of fuel when you hit the throttle the motor will stumble/fart/spit etc comming off idle and also when giving it some throttle when crusing at low speed/low rpm too.

When that happens and people dont realize it may be an issue with the accelorator pump casing the off idle stumble issues they bandaid that situation by recalibrting/richening the low speed idle & or pilot jet fuel calibration along with lowering the clip on the needle jet to richen things up quicker as throttle is opening too.

And doing that sometimes fixes that issue by over richening the fuel calibration from idle on up but doesnt seem to have helped with your motor

So pull the air filer off and you will see a small brass tube thats comming out of the carbs casting on intake sidee close to where airfilter seats that extends approx 1"-1.25" from outter ring of carb intake into center of carb facing throttle plate/ roughtly the center of the carb .

This is where the accell pump shoots a nice shot of fuel from a small hole in that brass tube that faces the thottle plate in carb into the carb everytime you hit the throttle comming off idle. Thaqt's what keeps the motor from stumbling /farting/backfiring comming off idle or when you hit the gas at other times too.

So check that out to ensure 1 it working and 2 tha its sending a shotof fuel into the carb as soon as you move the thorottle even a hair. If not there's and adh screw on the carb likage/acccel pump linkage you will see that you can adj to get the accel pump toactivate as as you move the thottle the slu=ightest amount of travel which it how it should work.

But if you cant get the accel pump to give a shot as soon as you move the throttle even the smallest amount of travel the accel pumpis likely bad or the small brass plus or accell pump fuel storrage bowl/housing is clogged with somting notletting it give the shot of fuel when thorttle is hit.

But 1 more thing is that hit me funny is the choke having to be partially out to get it to idle or run decnt at idle of just offidle, somethng is up with that too.

Possibly the pilot jet and or idle circut is clogged with something that you didnt get cleaned out on prior carb cleanings.

BYW,i ordered a new stock original part from yamaha pilot jet for my 06 1700 rd star and it came thru from yamaha with no hole drilled in it at all,its a solid piece that was never drilled out from the mfg,you cant see any light thru it at all.

I wonder if you have one of those defective pilot jets in yur carb making you have to pull the choke partially out for some fuel to get it to idle and or run decent at low speeds just above idle too where pilot jet is supposed to still be giving some fuel to the overall fuel calibratio when it cant becasue it may be defective like the one i have or its simply plugged up ?

Good luck.

Scott
