First of all really glad to hear you are feeling better, hope things continue to heal thoroughly for you. As far as your wifes feelings no one other than you and her together can make the right decision for you both. As far as triking a bike I have looked into it a bit and alot of people have recommended Mitchell Family Motor Trikes LLC at
http://mitchells-trikes.com/ for information even if you do not have them make the trike for you, they are supposedly very high quality trike makers with great information, the only thing is you cannot buy a kit from them they have to do the conversion for you. I sent them a couple emails and always got fast replies with very helpful information. Seemed like they were very nice people. Below are some quick points they have listed on their website:
Are trikes safer than motorcycles?
Without question yes. And we have several reasons to support this.
First, trikes are self-stabilized vehicles, meaning you don't have to keep them balanced at all times while starting, stopping, turning, swerving, backing, braking and parking.
Second, trikes can swerve at highways speeds while braking without turning over. Hard breaking mixed with a yank on the handlebars can spell disaster on a motorcycle. But a trike is much more capable of handling sudden road danger.
Third, it is possible for a trike to receive an external blow without tipping over. Though no one likes getting into a wreck, on rare occasion our company has done repair work for wrecked trikes. So far in every situation we've come across, no one has been turned over from or ejected by their trike.
Fourth, trikes have greater visibility. This is true especially from the front and back. Converting a motorcycle into a trike increases your width by several feet, meaning road traffic is more likely to see you than if you were just on a motorcycle.
