I need my steering bearings redone (she wobbles a bit at low speeds) + probably change fork oil change and other maintenance. Is this hard or requires special tools? The only thing I really have ever done to the bike, maintenance wise is change the oil/filter, transfer case oil, spark plugs, brake fluid, fuel filter, fuel sender, clean k&n air filter... simple stuff. She runs like a champ, but I think its time to invest some additional money as I want her to be around for along time. I will probably take her to the shop for other things because I'm the type that will do something and have extra parts left over at the end or can mess up a job.

I don't want to have the dealer charge me too much. Whats necessary and what is BS in the maintenance manual. I don't want the bike to come back running worse then when I take it in; nor do I want to overpay for unnecessary things. How much should I be prepared to pay?

Unless you think I can handle most of it. I can follow directions if they are very thorough and step by step (no assumptions). WDYT?
